NEW YORKER HEADING TO FLORIDA, SHOCKER!!
my gf and i (late 20's) are heading to st pete mid july for a week, the only thing we have set in stone is going to the rays/yanks game and hitting up the beaches.... neither one of us have never been down there and we need all the help we can get, i consider myself to be somewhat of a foodie so wanna stay far far away from anything fast food.... ive been browsing this board for suggestions and def gonna try out some of them... while were renting a car i do not want to drink and drive so we wanna go to dinner and out after in st pete's no tampa so can a northerner get some suggesitons for places in st pete not tampa.... were staying in the south east of the island the historic part i believe.... so anything on the island is fine... looking for a few upscale spots, casual, nightlife and def some seafood places... thank you in advance!!
So we don't rehash those which you are already planning on, let us know the ones you have picked to go to so far please.

Well, a couple of places that come to mind are Ted Peters in South Pasadena for smoked fish in a place that has been there forever. And if you are going to Ceviches, think about Pincho y Pincho which is downstairs from Ceviches and owned by them. The differences are that PyP has breakfast, and is a more laid back that Ceviches is. But if you do go to Ceviches, Tuesday nights are good as that is their $4 Tapas night. They have about 20-30 of their regular tapas dishes for a lower price as well as their sangria.

Mid Peninsula Seafood for cracked conch and grouper sandwiches would be a good choice, not too far from Trop Field.

If you are on the south end I would check out the Undertow beach bar for the sunset and bar food and the Drunken Clam and Jimmy B's beach bar for local bands. Snapper's is a good seafood restaurant near there. Use freebeachride.com they will give you a ride in a golf cart around the island so no need to drive. Before the game or after check out Ferg's an institution across from Tropicana Field.

Can you clarify where exactly you're staying? St. Pete is part of a peninsula, with the city of st pete on the eastern side and the (entirely separate) city of st. pete beach on the southwestern side, so that would change where you'd go so you could drink and not drive...welcome to the 'hood by the way!

hmmm... Assuming you mean the St. Pete/Clearwater airport, and not Albert Whitted (a small private airport), then Cafe Ponte would be very close, and a dive of a place, the Airport Variety store (across the street from the airport surprisingly) for Cuban Sandwiches would be my recs. The cuban place is strictly takeout, get it and take it back to the hotel. Cafe Ponte for lunch and/or dinner. Also nearby is the Venue, a sort of mix of a club and a couple of restaurants under one roof. See and be seen but decent food. Oh, and for Italian very close by, try Antonio's Pasta Grille.
Unless of course, you meant the much busier Tampa Airport....

Not too far for you will be Poppa's BBQ on 49th St. N and 122nd Ave. Their ribs are their best offering. But they are only open Monday through Friday, from 10:30 AM-4PM.
