Hamachikama in CT?
Any suggestions where hamachi-kama (yellowtail collar) is done well in Conn?
Also, does anyone know where it can be purchased fresh/frozen?. It would be great on the grill!!!
I don't know of any CT sushi place that has hamachi kama on its regular menu. Shows up as a special from time to time. Last I recall seeing it was at Miso in New Haven. Buying it at a store might be difficult as I think you will need to buy an entire side of the fish, I don't recall ever seeing the collar sold separately. You could try Mitsuwa in Edgewater, NJ or Catalina OP in California which does mail order.
Yes - been to Mitsuwa didn't see it there, but can probably order it however. Unfortunately, it is a 2 hr drive (but you can buy some really nice sake on Sunday!!!).
Daido market on Mamaroneck Ave in White Plains very occasionally will have it, but you have to place your order & then pick it up. 110mile round trip x 2 is a pain.
Actually, there are quite a few places who will serve hamachikama - Jani in Milford being one where more often than not, they have it - you just have to ask.
I've asked the fishmonger at Shop-Rite in Milford about getting it & he said it may be possible in the summertime for his suppliers to have it.
Mail order might be the way to go, unfortunately.
It's on the menu at Sennen in Monroe, CT and u can also get it at the Plum Tree in New Canaan -- both are recommended.
