Académie Advice

I have a group dinner at L'Académie on Friday and need help. Is there anything decent to eat there?

At last year's L'Académie group dinner my pasta with smoked salmon was so bad I barely ate half of it - unheard of for me. I don't eat red meat or most shellfish, do eat chicken and fish.

Thanks in advance.

I have had to eat here twice - bland and/or bad both times. Do people still inexplicably line up to get in here?

I survived. Had manicotti with spinach & ricotta in a very bland tomato sauce with a slightly weird aftertaste and topped with melted mozzarella. I did finish it all, so it was definitely better than last year. Dessert was creme brulee and it was actually pretty good.

Thanks again for all the suggestions. If forced to return again I'll probably have the same thing again to play it safe.

You should buy a T-Shirt with the mention "I survived L'Académie".

Glad you found something edible there, I never tried their creme brulee.

Canelloni was pretty good. I also liked the duck, served rare or medium-rare with a raspberry sauce. However, the duck is around $25 so if you don't feel like gambling with that price, don't get it.. up to you. Tuna steak was soggy, didn't like that. I should note I've only had each of these dishes once

          Hi

I had some sort of lime marinated chicken with sauteed vegs that was decent.

          Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It's the St-Denis location I'll be at. Was thinking of ordering penne arrabiata, I mean how bad can they screw that up, right? (famous last words...)

            Haha.

Well i found that their gnocchi con gorgonzola was pretty good. This was a long time ago, and at the location in Laval when it had just opened... hmmm that was long ago wasn't it? :/

Meh just get good wine and drink enough so you don't need food.

Hehe - thanks. I don't really drink and even if I did I have to give a presentation first thing the next morning otherwise this sounds like a perfect solution. ;-)

I remember ordering the penne arrabiata at the Laval location (Centropolis area) last year, was very spicy and "alright", nothing spectacular though.

Believe me, I'll be happy with "alright" after my last experience.

Thanks for all the tips, everyone - I'll be reporting back!

Sorry not an expert, but I've been stuck eating there once or twice for family dinner. It seems some locations are worse than others, and that they are getting worse the more locations they opened. I remember at first, it was never great, but it was okay, certainly not impossible to finish.

Anyways, last time I went, the main problem seemed to be that all plates were cold, or at best lukewarm. As for what to eat, I would say keep it simple. Last time I had some stuffed pasta in a rose sauce, and it was eatable (once they rewarmed it for me).

I'd say just eat the simplest dish they have to offer; i'd skip the fish if I were you.
