Sunday Brunch Recommendation for party of 6 and a handicapped person
I am planning a brunch for this weekend for a group of friends and I am having a bit of trouble finding a place only because one of my friend's husbands is handicapped- he isn't in a wheelchair, but walks with a cane and has trouble walking, so the more accessible the better. I know all the great brunch places, but many of them (Clinton Street, Prune, Balthazar) are tiny with tables close together and not very near parking space or garages, which would make things tough for him. Looking for someplace in Gramercy, Union Square or Tribeca- if there is parking on the street in front of/near the restaurant, that is a plus (of course, i know i still need to get a spot, but worse case is we drop him off, but always a nice option to get a space in front). Looking for traditional brunch foods- want something upscale, but don't want to spend a fortune- something like a blue ribbon- good food and relaxed atmosphere.
Thanks so much for everyone's help.
What about brunch at Coliccio & Sons? I was there with a group of 7 last Sunday and we had a wonderful time. Given its location, there is both nearby street parking and garage parking. There are a few steps once you are inside, but less than a flight. The dining room has plenty of room to move around in.

Capsouto Freres, near the Holland Tunnel, is an "off the beaten path" location and hence street parking might be a little easier. It's also a spacious, lovely restaurant with plenty of room between tables. Park in front of the restaurant?? Lol, you are kidding, this is New York!

Artisanal should work for you. Everything is on one level. There is street parking and parking garages nearby. Food is very good.

I highly recommend Bistro Lamazou, on 3rd Av., b/t 25th & 26th Sts. Though we haven't been there for brunch, we've eaten lunch and dinner there. The food is delicious, service is friendly, and the large space has very attractive decor. When we were there a week ago Sunday, there was a space directly in front of the entrance, and that's often the case on Sundays, especially during the summer months. If not, there are always spaces on the streets immediately nearby. So, no need to pay for parking. Oh, and no steps.

Locanda Verde? The restaurant is mostly on street level, but I think there's a step or two to get inside. The bathrooms are downstairs but accessible via elevator.

I'm a wheelchair user who has had two good experiences with Locanda Verde, but be aware that it can get very crowded.
The first time I went for dinner service with two friends, I was directed to a table that was completely impossible to get to in my rather large power wheelchair. The first hostess (who might have been momentarily stepping in for the main hostess on duty) indicated that they were fully booked and gave no suggestion that a solution might be possible. Then, after a few minutes, the second hostess gave me the option of dining right away in the bar area that was available to Greenwich Hotel patrons. The tables were too small and low to easily accommodate dinner, but the staff did not hesitate when I asked if we could be served in the very beautiful outdoor courtyard next to the bar. Despite our distance from the restaurant, the server made regular trips to our table and we felt very well taken care of.
My second visit (for brunch) was delicious but thankfully less eventful.
I didn't use the bathrooms during either visit, but I'm reasonably sure that they are accessible. There are no steps to get in.
Enjoy!
