Va. chains
We're headed to the Shenandoah Valley this fall. We generally eschew chains, but are curious as which chains operate in that area. We're from New England, so while we do have BK, Mickey D's and some others, there are some major and minor chains that might be worth trying.
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Too late for your trip but when we're road tripping, we (well, mainly my kids) enjoy stopped at Sheetz gas stations. The coffee isn't bad, the restrooms are large and usually clean, and the "made to order" sandwiches are fun. You order at computer kiosks, pay, and then pick up when order is ready. The sandwich quality is as good as the usual fast food joints plus you get to customize your sandwich ala Subway. And buy gas at the same time!
Sheetz are a novelty for us as they are only found in rural or outer suburban locations.

Hi molly -- I'm a transplanted New Englander here in VA (for 20 years). Not sure why you'd want to waste a meal in the Shenandoah on a chain, but you mght want to look for southern or mostly southern burger chains like Rally, Checkers, Krystal, and Steak & Shake.
One place you MUST check out is the Route 11 potato chip factory, which recently moved from Middletown to Mount Jackson. UNLIMITED free samples of their excellent chips! If you time it right, you can see chips being made, too.

re: Bob W
I live between Woodstock, VA and Winchester, VA. in the Shenandoah Valley. There are: McDonalds, Burger King, Arbys, Popeye's, KFC, Taco Bell, and all the rest at almost every turn-off.
I haven't been to the potato chip factory but twice and that was in 1993, so I can't vouch for them now. They used to be up-the-road-a-piece from me.
In and near Winchester, VA, there is also: Appleby's, Olive Garden, TGIF, Ruby Tuesday, Chili's, Panera, Cracker Barrel, 5 Guys, and a few others.

This might qualify (if you will be passing through any of the places they have locations): http://www.countrycookin.com/
