Gotta's: GOT SCACCIATA--like D&S used to make!!! (Portland, CT)

  • 2

Since D&S in Middletown closed years back, I've been missing and searching for the great scacciata (broccoli, spinach or potato pie) I grew up with in my hometown at Marino's and D&S.

Imagine my thrill when I spied a "homemade scacciata" sign at Gotta's Farm Stand on 17. Stopped by on my way home yesterday to check it out. The nice girls at the counter told me the person who makes it used to work at a pizza place and called to find out more. You'd have thought I won the lottery when they told me the woman who makes the pies used to work at D&S! It tastes every bit as delicious as I remember. My slice had everything in it: broccoli, spinach, potato and sausage. I think that varies and I'm told you can order a whole one...so count on me doing that very soon!

If you ever wondered what this kat was going on and on about re scacciata, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. Should you find yourself in the area, definitely check it out. Don't let the bridge construction scare you--barring rush hour, it's no problem at all. Just call ahead to be sure they have it if you're making a special trip: 860-342-1844.

P.S. Better pics next time--I was too excited and too hungry to fuss with my camera. :)

My pleasure--this has to be my happiest local find EVER! My mom called for additional info today and reminded me the woman who makes them is on vacation this week, so please plan for next week instead.

      Single piece: $3.50
      Half scacciata: $11.00
      Whole scacciata: $20.00
