Lunch and preparations for our adventure
I will be flying into Vegas in early August and meeting up with my grandson (11) also flying in. We'll pick up a rental car and head toward Henderson, Boulder City and end up in Peach Springs, AZ for our adventure together. He's a good eater and I'l like us to have lunch in Vegas and buy some snacks for the trip before getting out of town. Do you have advice for where to have lunch and where to shop before leaving Las Vegas?

Vons... middle of the road supermartket chain. Perfectly acceptable for everything. On Tropicana, corner of Maryland Parkway.
Albertsons... slightly better supermarket chain than Vons. Better produce and meats. On Flamingo, corner of Maryland Parkway.
Whole Foods Market... This is where Bravo TV sends the top chefs to shop. Heavy emphasis on organic food. GREAT produce. Amazing seafood and meats. Vast variety of prepared food sold by the pound. Think salad bar on STEROIDS. Located in Town Center on Las Vegas Bvld. just north of the 215 freeway. Town Center makes for a pretty good destination itself.
Trader Joe's Market... smaller stores with a slight bent towards organics. Good produce and breads. Vast variety of juices, wines, beers, snacks, protein bars, nuts and dairy items. Good choice of frozen meals.
99 Ranch Market... All things Asian. Inside Chinablock. Most people say Chinatown until they've seen it, then they understand why many locals refer to it as Chinablock.
International Marketplace... An amazing warehouse full of ethnic foods.

I second the Bachi Burger recommendation. So close to the car rental center. And there are supermarkets in the immediate area.
Although, if you drive through

Settebello has the best pizza I've had in Las Vegas, and best of all for your purposes, also serves some of the best salads in the Valley. It's located at Las Vegas
140 Green Valley Parkway. There are many supermarkets in the area, including a Whole Foods at 100 S. Green Valley Parkway.-----

We are not completely at leisure as we need time to get the car and find out way, arrive at our destination on time; but I'm thinking ethnic food, upscale pizza or terrific salad. Snacks are fruit, chips, drinks, somethings to keep in our hotel room during the week. So a restaurant not far from a store to make the most of our time, before hitting Rt 66. I read previous postings and Road Food, but didn't find anything on the road between Vegas and our destination to recommend. Thanks for your reply.

While not a pizza joint, Bachi Burger offers a good selection of interesting burgers and is very close to the airport rental car location. Website: http://www.bachiburger.com/
If you wish to stick with pizza, you might consider Metro Pizza on Horizon Ridge. It is a couple of blocks off of the 215 (South on Stephanie). They offer both a decent, upscale pizza and salads. A plus is they are colocated in a shopping center with a Fresh and Easy Market. Fresh and Easy would be a great place to shop for snacks and individual, microwavable meals that would be ideal for storage in your in-room refrigerator.
Here's a link to a map for Metro Pizza: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&s...

Get out of town before the traffic picks up. There's a Trader Joe's in Henderson that's easy to get to and has the snacks and drinks that you want. From the airport just get onto 215 East towards Henderson and take exit 7. 10345 S Eastern Ave
Around the corner on Coronado is Shakespeare's Grill, terrific burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups and Good ol' Mac and Cheese.
There's a KMart Supercenter on the block as well if you need any supplies
