Hi,
Has anyone been to the new restaurant (italian, I think?) that took over the Belgian beer place across from Luke's Lobster on 81st St? Any good? Also, do you remember the name?

  1. New place? I'm not sure there is a new place there.

There is Balon, a wine bar, across from Luke's, but I don't think it's that new. I haven't tried the food; the wine offerings are OK, nothing great. My boyfriend and I stop in there sometimes after dinner if we want to keep the night going.

There's also Spigolo, on the corner. I don't think that's new either, but the food is great. Definitely go, if you havent been.

Anyone else? Is there a new restaurant there? I was just at Spigolo a couple of nights ago, and I didn't notice anything.

Balon is a wine bar/restaurant. I have eaten there several times and food is always fantastic. One of thier daily specialties is guacamole w blue chips but don't let the casualness of that dish distract from there other outstanding first rate dinners. The owner who's name I forgot is quiet a lovely person and her staff always so gracious and helpful. Its a pleasure to dine there and setting would make for a great date spot as well. I believe thier current chef a graduate of the French Culinary Institute.
