Wanted to take husband away for special birthday but can't--so where should we eat in SF?

He likes relatively down to earth places (I like those plus fancy tasting menus) and we both like very good but non-stuffy service, and a nice wine (or beer) list. Is there somewhere we could go where we'd feel as if we had gotten a way a bit, where the food is super tasty, and where he'll feel like he had a special night without it being stuffy or boring? We eat everything. Some places we've liked have been Baker and Banker, SPQR, Canteen, and Aziza, if that's helpful. I was thinking of La Ciccia but it's closed over his birthday weekend. I appreciate the help!
