Chapel Hill to Mebane? Anything Worth Stopping For?

Allen and Son is the default answer. It's a tad overpriced and not as great as people say. Although, the desserts are great. A&M Grill is a very good barbecue spot and the Saxapahaw General Store is great place for a lighter meal. Both are great lunch spots.

I'm a fan of Allen & Son. If you head the other direction on Airport Road and turn left onto Weaver Dairy Road, you're on the way to The Pig. I like their take on food.

Our favorite restaurant in the entire state is in Hillsboro. It is called Panciuto and is only open for dinner. The food is spectacular. The chef was recently the runner up for James Beard's best chef of the South award.

Fiesta Grill on 54 (west of Carrboro) has the best Mexican food in the Triangle. Skip Allen & Son. It's inedible.

Count me as a fan of Allen & Son. Not always on their game but when they are, it is among the best BBQ places in the state.

There are 2 Allen and Sons...one near Pittsboro, one near Hillsborough. There is no ownership or operational connection. I have never been to the one in Pittsboro but have heard it's not good. The Hillsborough A&S is flat out excellent...top notch. It's sounds as if you have been the Pittsboro store. No one who has even a minimal understanding and appreciation of NC BBQ would describe it as "inedible".

How about heading up Airport Road (Hwy. 86) and hit Allen
and Son for some 'q? You could jump back on I-40 and
continue on to Mebane.

Not that far to drive, right? I like A&M Grill in Mebane. If you're going via NC 54, Saxapahaw (General Store/Eddy Pub) isn't that far out of the way. I suppose Hillsborough is also on the way.

Don't know had dinner at the Eddy last night and was not blown away, food was inconsistent, portions small on some dishes and large on others, and service was poor.
