Where can I get Montreal-style coleslaw in Austin?
I've been really missing what I would call "Montreal-style" coleslaw, as the kind I am thinking of is NOT creamy, but tangy with vinegar instead. I used to love eating Moishes coleslaw on a hot summer day, which you can buy throughout Ontario and Quebec, but not at all in the U.S. it seems. Any suggestions on where I can find a comparable coleslaw here in Austin?
P.S. If this helps, a Montreal Chowhounder was trying to reverse-engineer the recipe, and asked someone to post the Moishes coleslaw ingredients, in order, which were:
Cabbage, vinaigrette (water, sugar, vinegar, oil, salt, garlic, herbs, spices), carrots
Thanks!

re: brentwood
That was the first place that popped into my head as well. Doesn't Salt Lick also do that?
The only time I had SL's it was so dry it was hard to tell what it was. but I was told it was a vinaigrette ;-)I make my slaw at home with 1 part vinagrette (usually Girard's Champagne Dressing) to 1 part mayo.

re: rudeboy
I'll try the light version. Salad dressing and ice cream are the only "lite" products of regular versions I'll eat (and you really have to look at the fine print on ice cream before you buy it nowadays - if you want the full fat versions).
It's going to be hard to beat Girards regular champagne dressing though. I've been using it for a couple decades - mostly on salads, not on cole slaw.

Haven't ever heard it called Montreal-style...but it's common enough that I have heard people ask whether your coleslaw was mayonnaise or vinegar based. I'm pretty sure Foodheads does a vinegar-based cole slaw.
