Problems connecting & posting...and new, strange error messages
pages keep timing out tonight, and 3 times now i've gotten this bizarre error page:
Ruby on Rails application could not be started
These are the possible causes:
There may be a syntax error in the application's code. Please check for such errors and fix them.
A required library may not installed. Please install all libraries that this application requires.
The application may not be properly configured. Please check whether all configuration files are written correctly, fix any incorrect configurations, and restart this application.
A service that the application relies on (such as the database server or the Ferret search engine server) may not have been started. Please start that service.
Further information about the error may have been written to the application's log file. Please check it in order to analyse the problem.
tried to attach a screen shot but can't find the command to attach a photo in this window!

Hi goodhealthgourmet,
We released a major infrastructure upgrade yesterday and are trying to work out the bugs. Thanks for posting this, we are looking into this and other issues and will hopefully have them resolved in the near future. Sorry for the inconvenience.

re: Servorg
Has always sounded like that to me too! At the time the site relaunched, Ruby on Rails was considered cutting edge, don't know about now.

re: Melanie Wong
Ruby on Rails is still considered a very powerful and flexible framework for agile software development, and seems to be the right choice for us at this juncture. Thanks for understanding, we are finding our way through these problems. Cheers (with a vodka and pink grapefruit cocktail spiked with a heavy dose of 1's and 0's ;) )

Well, I dunno about Ruby on Rails but CH has been slow, has tended to hang (still)(entire page load) [I get "chowhound.chow.com not found" fairly often] or hangs while loading some widget or other, the reply module not loading etc happens for me too...and all this happens across the site - and has been going on for a while - it seems notable ever since that tweet/email/like/share floating thingie on the left got added to the site.

re: Melanie Wong
There actually is a Ruby on Rails cocktail recipe. It was created for the CHOW launch party: http://www.chow.com/recipes/10707-rub...
It contains neither vodka nor pink grapefruit, however.

re: Jacquilynne
Looks like mine is going to have to be Ruby's Nails in that case...(Ruby Red Grapefruit http://www.statesymbolsusa.org/Texas/... Vodka, lime juice with a splash of sparkling water and some grenadine)... ;-D>

I've been having problems the last couple of days also. I first noticed it in the Reply box, where the cursur wouldn't appear unless the mouse pointer was half-way down the box. Then the very slow response (even after rebooting the laptop), and most recently, frequent Ruby on Rails errors. I've lost the new post function for a number of my followed threads due to this. It's definitely frustrating.

More importantly, who is Ruby and why is she on the rails? That sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me.More importantly, who is Ruby and why is she on the rails? That sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me.
I find that hitting refresh usually rights Ruby... for the most part. Occasionally I have to hit refresh more than once, but mostly not.

So, I just got the same error message screen. It came up when I tried to navigate from my profile to a thread and clicked on the subject title. I also got an error message something like Unable to fetch reply mode, when I tried to post this reply. Clicking on the reply button to undo and clicking again gave me the same Unable message. I refreshed the page and then was able to pull up a reply screen to post here. That's the second time I've seen that in recent days.
Also, the site response time seems to be much slower in the last week.
I noticed that Jeremy Lacroix is not longer on the Chow.com team and is now Creative Director, Mobile at AOL Inc. So maybe there are design changes behind the scenes that are creating these glitches.
