Ice cream to go with peaches?

I plan to make a peach cobbler or crisp for some dinner guests this weekend. I would also like to make a homemade ice cream to go with it. Does anyone have a unique suggestion? I would like to have something more interesting than vanilla. Thanks!

I'm another vote for vanilla bean ice cream.

However, my current flavor of the month is rum, to make hard sauce, such as, a rum vanilla creme anglaise. With that in mind, something different that would sound good to me is vanilla rum ice cream or rum raisin ice cream.

Vanilla. Then buy/bake some good gingersnaps with real ginger. Smash them into bits and sprinkle over peaches/ice cream. Heaven in a bowl. :-)

The best ice cream for fresh peaches is brown sugar. Frozen custard is also wonderful, it's still vanilla, only richer with a creamier texture.

make a ginger caramel -- or a light almond crunch (MY choice) -- and a french vanilla. see which people prefer. you need to get started right away, though, because they'll take a while to prep and then set-up.

I really like caramel ice cream with peach desserts. Mulberry is good too, but it's a little early yet, and they can be hard to find.
Peach leaf ice cream is something special, as is noyaux, but the bitter quality is not for everyone.
Ooh, creme fraiche is nice too.

On "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" Chris Consetino showed this place that makes proscuitto ice cream....I'd prefer Sopressate with peaches, but hey. Seriously, a homemade French Vanilla would be killer.

If you want a little twist on vanilla, you might try a good vanilla recipe sweetened with part honey. Honey ice cream on peach crisp would be tasty:-)

Maybe a light infusion of ginger with little bits of candied ginger added in?

you beat me to it! +1 on the ginger, it's my favorite spice with peaches. i'd skip the candied bits because they freeze rock-hard.

if you want to gild the lily you could garnish with pecan brittle...bacon optional :)

that was the first thing that came to my mind. you don't want to stray too far from vanilla, imo, with any fruit dessert, but ginger should be just right to contrast against the sweetness of the crisp. However, if your peaches are tart at all, and the pie not a very sugary one...then I might go with caramel. hmmm...or ginger/caramel...

I have specifically avoided buying an ice cream maker because I see what kind of trouble it could lead to. ;-)

I made coconut milk/ginger ice cream last weekend and added finely chopped crystalized ginger with no problem. I added fresh ginger to sugar and water to make a simple syrup, then left the ginger in the bowl when I added the coconut milk to further infuse the flavor (would have done the same with cream in a dairy version), strained before chilling. Great with fresh peaches!
