Beast or Castagna?

Taking husband out for birthday dinner. Have reservation at Castagna but trying to get in at Beast instead. I think the husband would appreciate the hipness of Beast, given that he is getting older. LOL.

Both menus look great. Your thoughts? Thank you!

    Castagna. easy pick.

also, I'm sure you know this, but please oh please, which ever you decide, make sure you call as soon as you know and cancel the reservation at the establishment that you will not be going to.

I like both, but the seating at Beast was really uncomfortable last I was there (the old clarklewis chairs, aka torture devices), and I would make sure the b-day boy wants/enjoys a communal dining experience for his big day dinner...some really don't.

Overall, I'd pick Castagna (or Metrovino, or Genoa).

Hey JillO....you know, i've never had a problem with the chairs at Beast or when they were at Clarklewis. Maybe I have an "iron butt". :-)

Castagna, hands down. I would not really enjoy a set menu and communal seating for my birthday dinner.

Since Matt Lightner is leaving Castagna at the end of July, it's a no-brainer to get there before he goes. I just ate there a week ago for the first time and it really is in a class of its own in this city.

Completely agree. We had dinner at Castagna a few weeks ago and it was really, really good. All senses are involved in the dishes. Sorry to see Matt leaving the Portland area.
