DTW ideas

Dear all,

After 6 years away, I am moving back to Detroit (the Royal Oak area). I have been catching up on the board, but would appreciate your thoughts on the following categories:

Great local places (places to go for casual weeknight dinners - especially ethnic),
Great upscale places (date night ideas - I had dinner at Roast recently and loved it),
Places worth the drive (where to go if I am leaving the Woodward corridor).

I know this is really broad and that I will have many years to explore the best that Detroit has to offer, but I'd certainly appreciate your thoughts.

Mon Jin Lau at 15 Mile Road and Stephenson in Troy is one of my favorite restraurants in the area. Asian/Fusion cuisine. Casual.

      Great Local Places
      Lockhart BBQ
      Slow's BBQ

      Upscale Places
Forest Grill (In my opinion, the best restaurant in SE Michigan, but I have not been to Roast)
Iridescence (Great restaurant inside the MotorCity Casino)

      Worth the Drive
Beezy's Cafe in Ypsilanti (Good sandwich shop)
Sweet 220 (Good sweets, but have a limited selection)

      That should get you started.
