Santa Cruz search for July 4th meats
Where to go for meats for 4th BBQ in Santa Cruz? I am planning on menus around the grill and am looking for beef and chicken for kebobs, ground beef, sausages, and hot dogs. El Salchichero at Swift Street looks interesting-has anyone been and if so what do you recommend there? Thanks so much!

Thanks for the suggestions. Our Santa Cruz BBQ family outing was a huge success!! We had the butcher at El Sachichero cut up some beef sirloin beef kebobs for Saturday night, and we went Italian sweet sausages and bacon burgers for the 4th. The bacon burgers were delicious-impossible to mess up even for us less than expert BBQers. They do not cut up poultry so we got the chicken kebobs for Saturday night from Shoppers Corner market. I must say I love that store-curious how it does with a Whole Foods nearby? Thanks so much for great suggestions!

I am glad your 4th of July BBQ was a huge success. All the right moves. Whole Foods came to S.C. about two years ago. They have two stores. I shop at the other store now and then in Capitola where I live. I like Shoppers , they seem to have more local produce, great wine selections. good meat counter and hard to find items. They have been on that corner for like seventy years. They own the property. It's my favorite grocery store and they are always busy.

Every thing at El Salchichero is fantastic. You might want to stop at Shoppers Corner . They are the best store in Santa Cruz.

+1 on Shoppers Corner. We were very impressed by this store's inventory of fresh meats, wines and quality of goods in general that you won't find at most other markets.
I don't know if this rec is too far out of the way or if it's considered a touristy stop, but we stopped by Corralitos Market and Sausage Co. up in the mountains of the Corralitos/Watsonville area. Lots of sausages of course - they were very good, but we also had some of their marintated meats on the BBQ grill which really hit the spot.
