Please help with lunch for U2 concert GA line July 5

Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. Thanks to all the great Chicago Chowhounds who have helped me with restaurant and food ideas in the past!

A group of us is coming from Ohio to see U2 at Soldier Field on Tuesday, July 5, 2011. I have seen another thread with ideas for late-night dining after the show; many thanks. Our experience at the U2 concerts at Soldier Field in 2009 was that it takes forever to get out of Soldier Field, there are no taxis, public transit is crammed, and you might as well have a place to go!

Five to ten of us will be waiting in the General Admission line at Soldier Field all day on July 5 (I know we are insane). We can probably get Jimmy John's to deliver sandwiches to the line, as they did this in 2009. I would love to have other options. It is possible for one member of the party to leave and return with carryout, as long as they aren't absent longer than an hour or so. It would be wonderful to have a decent lunch, and I've been searching for possible options not too far away, but I am having trouble and hoped someone here could help, please! As far as I know, we have no food allergies or restrictions to deal with.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

  1. I have absolutely no idea who can deliver there, so all I can do is guess. So here are my suggestions but they are really just guesses.

Panozzo's is an Italian market near Soldier Field, and they make hot sandwiches and cold sandwiches as well as hot entrees. Their website says they do catering so they must have a delivery van. So that would be my number one suggestion. Call them to discuss (and don't wait till Monday to call because they're closed Mondays). First check out the menu on their website at

I would suggest pizza - there's a Lou Malnati's for deep-dish at 8th and State - but it would be very sloppy to eat while standing/sitting on line. But you could try it.

Another suggestion would be Chinese food from Chinatown, which isn't far away. Lao Sze Chuan and Double Li are my favorites but I have no idea whether they deliver.

And you could always enter the Soldier Field address into Grubhub. is a website that shows you which restaurants will deliver to a given address. Some of them accept orders placed online, too.

    HTH - enjoy the concert!

Nsxtasty, thank you for your prompt and helpful reply. I had not thought of Grubhub and will give that a shot if Panozzo's does not pan out--I looked at their menu and I think it sounds great. Thank you!

    2. Oysy is terrific little sushi place that is walkable from Soldier Field. S Michigan and 11th, roughly. 25 minute walk.
