Annoying Share Popup

I find this thing really annoying. It acts differently than most web pages and as such it attracts my attention when I really do not care about it at all. Adding an X to it to kill it would be a compromise to just removing it altogether.

That widget is actually supposed to hide itself if it would obstruct the main content down the center of the page (see pic below). Are you running Noscript or any other add-on that might prevent it from doing so? If not, there may be an issue with that combination of OS and browser that we can address.

It does partially hide itself. Then the little red strip "follows the page" by staying halfway down the page. This is annoying because it acts differently than normal web pages. It is red and attracts my attention using the same mental facilities that notice moving objects.

Please change its behavior to remain at the top of the page or add an option to turn it all the way off.

The slider does not fully retract in Firefox 5.0 /Mac OSX 10.6.7. I'm not running any script-blockers.

By "not fully retract[ed]", do you mean that more than the grey and red strip is visible after it retracts? (see the image I posted above)

Moreover, is it covering any of the text/content on the page?

If everything is working properly, neither should be happening.

BTW, Engineering (you'll pardon me if I now hear you answering with Scotty's voice) -- I have noticed of late that the share bar is *extraordinarily* slow to load, which sucks my memory and slows me down *a lot*.

Something there you can tweak?

Joking aside, how slow is "extraordinarily" slow? If it's taking more than a few seconds that's extremely odd, and certainly not something we've been seeing on this end.

Definitely not the intended behavior. I'll look into possible causes on our end. On your side, any noteworthy plugins or the like that could be affecting the behavior?

And in either case, are you experiencing this lag time only on your main computer, or on others as well?

I'm running Firefox 4.0.1 (yes, I'll bump it to 5 one of these days) with AdBlockPlus. My machine is a long way from new, but I have a couple of other forums where I open multiple windows, but this is the only one that lags badly, which points to it coming from your end.

I'm a Luddite -- I only use one computer.

(on the good side, the share bar parks itself over there in the left-hand grey column and behaves itself)

upgraded to 5.0, and *so far* seems to be loading much faster....will post back if the lag continues.

Glad to hear that the update improved things for you, knock on wood. Still, very strange that you were experiencing that lag...

(This is moot now since it is working fine today.) The red strip and all the icons were all left-aligned at the edge of the CH window. It covered up the text on the left side. It was as if the widget retracted, but left share icons behind.

Glad to hear that it's cleared up for you as well. Sounds like it may have been part of the weirdness from the ongoing upgrades. Let us know if you see the problem again.

I'm running Firefox 5.0 and adblock plus, and the share bar is blocking a fair bit of text on my screen.

Explorer 8, WIndows 7, bar is flush left on the screen and nowhere near the text area.

@tzurriz: strange, I just tried ran the same configuration without seeing that issue. I doubt that Adblock Plus is the cause. Could I please get your operating system and a screen shot of the problem?

To be honest I'm not sure whether or not we changed anything in the time between your two prior posts, but I'm glad it's cleared up. Thanks for reporting back!

I'm using chrome, and the pop up constantly covers text. Also, once it pops out it is difficult to get it to go back in. I waste a lot of time mousing around it to get it to pop back, or read around it.
I tried to do a screen shot of it covering the text, but it won't upload properly.

download adblock plus on firefox then block the image ... I block almost everything on this site because its so darn annoying and tacky
