Where to go to make the best Seafood Platter?

I need to prepare a beautiful seafood platter for 12-15 dinner guests...where should I go to purchase fresh seafood?

Shrimp or Prawns
Littleneck Clams, Mussels, or Cocktail Claws
Crab Dip
Poached or Smoked Salmon
Steamed lobster

  1. The Lobster Place in Chelsea Mkt is probably a very good bet. Great seafood, wide choice and good prices. You may also want to see if they, or another fish monger, could make you such a platter. It may save you a lot of time and effort. Though I imagine you don't want those oysters opened too far in advance. Good luck.

+1 You can hear (I mean smell) the ocean when you walk in.

    2. Citarella has been famous for their top quality fish and seafood for years. I would probably have them prepare the platter. Whole Foods can also do that, and Zabar's as well.

Zabar's...hmmm...don't think so. They don't sell fresh fish, only smoked fish + herrings.

Fairway will probably be a better place.
        There or Citarella.

Eli Zabar's market indeed sells fresh fish and seafood

I would go to Citarella -- have put my own together from there in the past. Not a fan of the seafod at Whole Foods, and I believe it is correct that Zabar's doesn't sell fresh seafood, though Eli's on the UES does -- for a price.

Edit -- also not a huge fan of the seafood at Fairway -- nothing wrong with it, but I always go next door to Citarella instead.

Dorian's is my favorite fishmonger in the city -- expensive, but they do deliver.
