Favorite gourmet snacks?

I've taken an interest in gourmet foods like foie gras/pate, smoked/cured meats, cheese, caviar, etc. I'm just wondering if anyone has a favorite way of eating some of these things, or a particular kind of snack they prefer (i.e. favorite type of cured meat, etc.)

I guess I hadn't thought of this as gourmet until my parents just about fell over when I mentioned it. I thinly sliced a baguette, drizzled in oil, topped with slices of brie and toasted until brie was bubbly. I then topped each slice with balsamic marinated strawberry slices and downed them warm.

I love any salumi and cheese, in various combinations.

One thing I will say about this is that most people don't think about matching items. I recently went away and we had different breads (olive, onion, proscuitto and provolone) with a wedge of hard provolone. We also had a spicy salami, proscuitto and sopressata. I found that anything paired with the olive bread was lost. Anything paired with the hard provolone was lost. So I somewhat stuck to the onion bread and then sopressata, the slightly bitter taste of the onions and the saltiness of the meat somehow worked perfectly. I also think this rule applies to having cheese. Stay away from crackers or bread that overpowers the cheese. Also, when eating a variety, it's better to start with the more subtle flavor and work your way up.

I'm not sure I think of cured meat or cheese as gourmet but my preferred way of eating them is the same as my prefered way of eating anything - the simpler, the better.

            I love bresaola.

Instead of slicing it thin like most people, I like to cube it, and make fried rice with it. Terrific. Just terrific.

Make fried rice, and just before rice is done cooking on the wok, drop an egg on the rice, turn off heat, toss the rice so the egg coats everything, then toss in the bresaola and give it another twirl, cover for about 30 seconds. Serve.
