Costco discontinuing Coca Cola products again? - [moved from Los Angeles area board]

Sorry if there is already a thread about this, but I've been sick and have missed posts.

We were shopping at the Northridge Costco yesterday and planned to buy regular and diet Coke. They only had Mexican Coke and some four packs of multi-liter stuff. My mother asked someone about cans and was told that Costco is [again] giving up Coke sales. Some of you may remember they did this once before because of a price dispute.

On my way home, I stopped at the Signal Hill store where there was a fairly good supply of cases of regular and diet cans, so I don't know if they just have a bigger supply or slower sales there.

  1. "only had mexican coke"----

Thats a huge plus in my book! I find it tastes much better with "real sugar"

On the very rare occasions I taste non-diet, that's certainly true. However, for Diet Coke fans like me and my mother, if what we were told is true, it is not good news. Sometimes the supermarkets have a lower price for a few days, but when they don't, Costco is the best bet. Maybe Smart&Final is a good choice.

    2. I find their coke prices to typically be higher than the supermarket. $6.99 a case by me.

      1. Coke just announced that they are raising prices by 2-3% in this may be a price dispute....

        1. My CostCo (San Diego) also doesn't carry the cans of Coke right now. Guess I'll stock up at the grocery store sales.

          1. Costco will only bring in or retain a product that will give their members the best value.

It's not a best value if you don't buy it. Seems Costco doesn't care what their members prefer. Thankfully, there's a Sam's nearby with not only the U.S.'s soda of choice, but also lower gas prices!

That's blatantly false. Costco's business model depends on the membership fees; a huge portion of their profits are from them (and not so much from the items sold). To say that Costco doesn't care about its members is saying that they don't care about making money, which is insanity in corporate America.

The gas is not really any lower at Sam's than at Costco. Here in Alabama, Sam's was $3.35/gal Friday while Costo's was $3.30/gal Saturday.

Received a note back from an e-mail to Costco. They're discontinuing Coke due to prices on 32 count packs. Oh well, we can purchase soft drinks at Sam's, Wal-Mart or Publix. The price of gas at Sam's here in FL is $3.34/gallon. It's $3.37/gallon at Costco but maybe that's because it's an older shipment and they can't lower the price until the next truck comes in. It all comes out in the wash :-)
