SOMA - now open on King, west of Spadina

AWESOME store. Love this new location with all my faves and more! From the flatbreads to the ice cream to the usual bars! We over did it with all of our excitement!

Only negative was that it seemed that the staff is in competition as to who can be more austere or snobby than the next. Wrong neighbourhood for that crap!

When I checked it out last week, they were giving out samples of an herbed focaccia. The server said they are developing more offerings like breads and things like sandwiches. Haven't been back yet, so don't know if they've started yet.

More lunch options in the area never hurts!

Interesting. The concept so far has been chocolate, but they are backed by O & B, though fairly gently to date.

Wow - new location, flatbreads and an O&B connection - all news to me. How long has that connection existed?

The O&B connection has been there pretty much from the beginning. The maestro, David Castellan, was a pastry chef before starting what many hope to be a new religion.
Soma chocolate has quietly appeared on O&B dessert menus, without overhype.

Well there you go - you learn something new every day. Thanks. Looking forward to checking out the new digs. I'm a big fan of their chocolate.

I saw croissants and sammies - I assume to cater to the area where there's a lot of foot-traffic and low-rise offices. The space is nice. Lab's in the back with a few chairs and tables. I feel like there's less seating in this location. Haven't tried the gelato yet!

I totally agree that the King St. Soma is awesome! I've been twice - once on a Saturday morning, and again midweek - and found the staff to be absolutely fabulous! The first time I went I wanted a beverage that was not on their menu, and they went out of their way to be sure it was made the way I asked. That first visit was on a very hot day, and we were offered taste spoons of their sorbettos and gelatos. With their advice we decided on a very yummy combination, which we enjoyed while seated on their remarkably comfy stools at the front of the shop. The staff chatted with us about the area and the people who were coming in, all in a very positive way, and made us feel as if we were already regulars. On my second visit I'd forgotten to ask for my beverage to be spicy, and even though it was my error they offered to make me a new one. I felt too guilty to accept, so they spiced up my existing drink and it turned out really well. I haven't tried their focaccia or other baked-on-site goodies, but I am really looking forward to going back.
