Le Mini Palais for a sunny lunch with friend, but what foul-weather back-up choice?

canadiangirl_in_Paris Jun 24, 2011 03:37 AM

I've made reservations for Saturday lunch in a week's time for a terrace table at Le Mini Palais, but in case the weather continues on its iffy course of the last two weeks, I'd like to have a back-up reservation for a long-awaited meal with a visiting friend. If it's rainy/windy/cloudy/cool, we'd probably like to settle into a cozy bistrot for a girly lunch with lots of warming wine. Doesn't have to be in the same neighbourhood as Le Mini Palais, but they do have to serve lunch on Saturdays (easier said than found) and be reasonably easy to get into at this late stage in the game (again, no mean feat). If we could come out with the total bill under 100 euros, all the better. Any suggestions?

This Saturdaty will be great weather.

Note the detail of Saturday weather: precipitation 0% all day.

If you still worry that it suddenly rains defying the 0% precipitation prediction, a restaurant is not going to force you to lunch in the rain. You can always get an inside table in that case.

If you not only worry that it will rain anyway and also hate the interior of the Mini Palais and want to go to another restaurant at the last minute, please cancel at Mini Palais.

Thanks for the advice Parigi. My reservation is actually for a week from Saturday as noted in my original post, so getting a reliable forcast at this point is unlikely. The reason why I'd like a back-up plan is not because I fear being made to sit in the rain while I eat my meal (besides, the Mini Palais terrace is covered, though the beautiful view would be lost in a downpour), but because I do indeed find the interior unappealing. And yes, if I change my mind about a reservation I've made, I always cancel it with as much notice as possible.

Any ideas on rainy-day lunch spots?

"a week from Saturday as noted in my original post"

Oh sorriest. You can still get a 10 day weather forecast.

My backup for the nearby area would of course be Chez L'Ami Jean. Actually it would not be my backup but my first choice.

Thanks! That is a cozy spot, perfect for a long-overdue catch-up session with an old friend. Will put it on the short-list. Haven't been there in ages, but if you say it would be your first choice, they must still be doing things right.

            But better reserve immediately.
