NYC - Newbie Desperately Seeking Best Crabcakes

Planning an October trip to Manhattan. Any advice on where to find the best crabcakes? Would prefer a more casual restaurant near Manhattan or the Bronx. Thanks!

Believe or not the Indian restaurant in Tribeca called Tamarind makes a great crabcake!

Likely the best crab cakes I've had were at Milos. Just excellent, but pricey. Not that formal of a restaurant but yes, expensive. The Sea Grill at Rock Center used to have a great crab cake too.
      Good luck in your search.

Just curious, but why are you looking for crab cakes in NY? They're more a Maryland specialty.

I love good crabcakes and they are hard to find in my area. What with NYC being such a culinary melting pot and so much activity on this board, I figured someone has found crabcakes they love there. My Bronx-born Italian boyfriend thinks we're coming just for the italian food!

As someone who was born and raised in Baltimore, I haven't found anything in this City that comes even close. That said, if you aren't interested in true MD style lump crabcakes, you could do worse than Del Friscos.

Hate to say it, because it's a Bobby Flay restaurant - but the crabcakes at Bar Americain were fantastic last time I had them. Generous serving, as well, for an appetizer.

Bar Americain's seafood appetizers are really good! The seafood trio was amazing last time I was there!

I've a small sample size, but liked the Mortons (46th and 5th) version.

Del Frisco's does a great crabcake. No breadcrumbs, just crab with their cajun sauce.

The Palm Restaurant makes insanely good ones. You get two the size of a softball.
