Charleston-short business trip
Just got back from a 2 day business trip to Charleston. It never ceases to amaze me how many people flock there for vacation during the summer heat. It makes the restaurants very crowded. Anyway, here goes:
Husk- finally had a chance to try it. It is very good but also pricey. I like the locavore philosophy and the creative presentations. The pork fat/butter spread for the salty rolls alone merits a mention. However, I had a hard time dining on my company's $55 guideline for dinner. 2 apps and a couple glasses of the very cheapest wine they serve was all I could swing and I barely made it (including tip). That said, the food was delicious. I had a late season soft shell crab that was cooked perfectly with a nice "slaw" garnish. I also had the fire roasted clams that came with some smoked tomatoes and corn. The broth was wonderful. I was actually satisfied since it was a hot night and I was seated outside, but I'd definitely like to go back with a more expansive budget.
Halo- a nice little place across from MUSC Hospital on Ashley. The Cobb Salad is very good and it comes with a tasty pretzel roll. It's my default lunch place when at MUSC and all their stuff is fresh and well prepared. They also do a nice job with catering.
Sushi Hiro-again,it was hot, and it had been a long day, and this place was on King St and close to my hotel. Nothing radical or wild, but good fresh sushi and a nice staff. I had sushi comfort food: wakame salad; tuna, yellow tail, and shrimp nigiri; a spicy tuna roll; and a crawfish roll. Everything well prepared and presented. I was going to go to O-Ku, but the opinions were controversial. Maybe on a future visit.
Cru- lunch before heading out. This is becoming one of my favorite joints in Charleston. I have never been disappointed with the food or service. They call it comfort food but that is very modest. These folks know what they're doing! Even though it was slammed, I managed to get a seat at the counter. I had a chilled cucumber soup and a special salad: Roasted Red and Poblano Pepper Tuna Salad with Arugula, Fresh Mozzarella, Cherry Tomatoes, Basil and Balsamic. So delicious!
Can't wait for my next trip to Charleston!

You had my kinda good time! I so agree with you about Cru.
And that's good to know about HALO. I'll recommend it to people who need to be at the hospital.
O-Ku is on my list. I like controversial. Tonight I'm going to Bin 152 to check out the scene.
