Ottawa (Byward Market) with kids

Going to Ottawa for the upcoming long weekend.

We will be staying near Parliament Hill, but hope to arrive early the first day and walk over to the Byward Market for lunch and explore.
I've looked up the list of restaurants in the Market -- does anyone have any recs that would be suitable for kids? They are 5 and 7 and eat almost every type of cuisine.

Doesn't have to be fancy -- but doesn't have to be just burgers and fries, either.

And if anyone has any recs for the Parliament Hill area for other meals, that would be great too :)

  1. Don't know exactly what you're looking for but there is a diner in the market that is very kid-friendly and has a pretty varied menu: Zak's. Not haute cuisine by any stretch, but if I have my young nephews in tow, I bring them here:

    hope that helps

Thanks! We're there for 3 days so I'm looking for any and all recommendations that people are willing to give/

    2. Hi - What does "suitable for kids" mean... ?

When we went to Ottawa with our young son, we went everywhere. We adjusted our expectations slightly (ie. early dinner) but managed to hit all the restaurants we wanted to try.

Two places I would recommend are Play and Benny's Bistro. If your children are "well behaved" (can sit down, wait patiently and not strike terror in the hearts of other patrons) - I would recommend having the "nicer" restaurant meals at lunch (if that is on your to do list) when the kids are less impatient and tired... Play was a "little business lunch crowd" but they were very accomodating wtih us. (But I would call first in case that has changed...)

      enjoy ottawa.
