Peach Farm Tonight, What To Get?
Going to Peach Farm for the first time tonight and I need to know what to order. I searched around the board a little bit and found some popular dishes, but I am allergic to shellfish, which eliminates all the fun S&P dishes and many others. The one kind of shellfish I can have is clam, but I saw mixed reviews on the clams with black bean sauce. Any thoughts on what to order? Do they do dan dan noodles?
Thanks!

Update--ended up having a last minute location change and went to New Shanghai instead, which was great. We had hot and sour soup, spinach with ginger sauce, dan dan noodles (yay!), "special" buns (steamed buns w savory pork inside), ma po tofu, and some red bean cakes. Everything came out hot and delicious and I would definitely go back. The ma po tofu was incredible, probably the best that I have had in Boston. Hopefully I can go to peach farm another time!

re: BlueTrain84
I'm glad you liked New shanghai, it has some of the best Sichuan food in Ctown. I'm glad you liked it hopefully you had a chance to search the web for the must have dishes, I like the hot and numbing bamboo shoots (don't remember if that is what is says on the menu). The hot and sour soup is good there. Also the beef or chicken with long hot peppers.

I did see the hot and numbing bamboo shoots but I was afraid that they would dominate me haha. Dan dan noodles are pretty much pushing the limits for heat for me--how much hotter would you say the hot and numbing bamboo shoots are?
I can't wait to go back to new shanghai, it really was great.

I don't find them much hotter spicy wise, and you can also eat them with a litle rice, they do use peper oil, but also sichuan peppercorns that give it a different spice flavor. The long hot dishes are a bit hotter though. I guess I haven't been in a while and need to get back there.

re: gourmaniac
A few more dishes that I like at New Shanghai are Szechuan wontons with red chili, shredded chicken/ spicy sauce (app), Boiled beef filet/red pepper/bean sprouts. These dishes are all very spicy or you could ask to tone it down.

I don't want to scare you, but if your shellfish allergy is severe make sure that the one fluent English speaking manager( I forget his name but maybe you can search on line about reservations) knows of your allergy and understands that no shellfish means no squid, crab, lobster etc, except for clams. I certainly don’t want this to be your first and last dinner here.

Seafood is a definite strength here, so if you want to avoid shellfish, the s/p squid is very good, as is the fresh fish from tank -- I can't remember the preparation, but it's very, very tasty. The peapod stems are also excellent.

re: trueblu
Unfortunately, squid and octopus are actually members of the shellfish family :-( I can't do crab, lobster, any kind of shrimp, mussells, oysters, conch, scallops or snails. Sad face. I'll probably go with some of the peapod stems and soup, plus either fried pork chops or fried eel.

The beef with sour mustard greens is great. If I recall correctly there has also been some praise for the Peking duck, though I've never had it here myself. I also often see groups of Chinese diners eating pan fried noodles of some sort. Not sure which menu item that is, but you can always point.

I think the yee mein I mentioned might be one of those noodle dishes. Seeing it on somebody else's table is what got me to order it the first time there.

Something from the live tanks is essential, done simply in ginger/scallion/soy sauce. Otherwise, you're looking at a solid Cantonese array of other dishes.
If I've got a decent-sized crowd, I'll also order something stir-fried (e.g., mustard greens with shredded beef), something deep-fried or dry-fried (e.g., dry-fried salted squid), a soup or hot pot (e.g., corn with shredded chicken or seafood/tofu hot pot), something else seafood-y (e.g., spicy-salt squid/pork chop/shrimp), a vegetable dish (maybe pea pod stems), a fried rice dish, and maybe a noodle dish (like HK-style yee mein).
I'd stay away from things that look familiar from American-Chinese menus (like Peking ravioli and the General), the Sichuan section (though I don't think they have dan-dan noodles anyway), and Northern dishes (e.g., moo shi and Peking duck).

See if they still have fresh soft shell crabs, they are yummy, if not get the pork chop, squid, shrimp? fried trio, also get a live tank fish steamed with ginger scallion if you have enough people.
Whoops missed the shellfish allergy, the beef chow foon is good also. You can get just the fried pork chops since you can't do the shrimp and squid.
