Hamburg - Saliba, de feine Küche Syriens

Saliba at the Alster Arcade provides decent (if expensive) Syrian light meals, beautifully presented, amidst perhaps the most strategically located eatery in Hamburg, bar none – within sight of the Rathaus & alongside the Alster canal.
Great place for people-watching (and to be watched) as the arcade can be pretty popular & busy.
The chicken shawarma was well-grilled & served a la minute. A side-dip of thick humus came with it, which lacked the spike of flavor I’d expected from a typical creamy, garlicky sour cream-based dressing. Instead of a fattoush or tabbouleh side, a fresh salad consisting of tomatoes, cucumber (yep, the e.Coli scare seemed to be over in Hamburg), spinach & pomegranates (lovely Syrian touch) was served. The accompanying pita breads were topped with tomatoes/herbs & crisp-fried – interesting variation.
Dessert was a selection of Syrian sweet Maamoul pastries – filled with walnuts, pistachios & dates.
