Pecorino Brentwood or Il Grano or a third choice?

Want to take someone who is Italian to a good italian place on westside LA without too much pretension. Pecorino and Il Grano were two thoughts. Any others? Preference of one of these two over the other?

  1. Il Grano over Pecorino. Not sure what you wound consider pretension but, keeping it West of the 405, also consider Drago, La Botte, Valentino, Vicenti, or the new Villetta.

    La Botte Ristorante
620 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica, CA 90401

    Vincenti Restaurant
11930 San Vicente Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90049

    Drago Restaurant
2628 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90403

    246 26th St, Santa Monica, CA 90402

I would suggest either Valentino or Viletta.

Our friends from Italy love love Toscana. To them it feels like home.

    2. caveat: i am making this recommendation after eating at il grano only once:

go somewhere OTHER than il grano.

for a meal that costs a fortune, in a restaurant that specializes in fish, one would expect not to have EVERY cooked fish dish served way overcooked.

      1. Divina in Brentwood Court (Sunset and Barrington) is very good. Host is extremely gracious and food is wonderful.
