Quick Munich round up - very short
I was only in Munich for a few days with my other half, and we didn't really try a huge variety of places to eat but thought I would put my two cents in here anyway.
2 out of our 3 nights we went to Augustiner Braustauben (Landsberger Str. 19). Why? It was close to our hotel, and we thought the food was good and the service friendly. This is just a beer hall, so it is not an upmarket place by any standards. Over the two nights we had 1/2 roast duck, roast pork with dumplings, sauerkraut, brewmasters special, white sausages, potato pancakes and beer. Simple, easy and tasty.
On the last night we went to Paulaner Braeuhaus because we thought going to the same place 3 times would be bad. Service was awful, food was OK, atmosphere not so great. After bad service throughout the meal when we were paying the server told us service wasn't included and took a long time giving us our change then standing over us waiting and yelled at us on the way out for not giving him a tip.
We had tasty apfel strudel at ArzMiller (near the Theatinerkirch) twice, with vanilla sauce/custard. Would recommend going there for a quick brunch.
This was Paulaner at Kapuzinerplatz? I'm sorry the service was so bad. I've had some decent meals there (sure, not spatenhaus but also considerably lower price point), and I really love the unfiltered Helles (Thomaß Zwickl) they brew onsite. The atmosphere really depends on where they seat you. I like the front room if I'm with a big group of people, but then being in a big German crowd maybe has a positive effect on the service.
I have to admit that as much as I love their beer, my meals at Weisses have been worse & more expensive than anything I've experienced at Paulaner, and the service has been pretty indifferent to rude regardless of what nationality people I've been with.
We got hooked on eating the same things at different brauhauses across Munich and couldn'' get enough at the Weisses Brauhaus http://www.weisses-brauhaus.de/near Marianplatz which was hands down our favorite one of all and even went back twice in one evening because we wanted it to be our final Munich dining memory- we loved dining in Munich for classic "German" food - pork, saurkraut, dumplings, sausages. Yum!
