Seeking South American Markets

I'm seeking a market in Manhattan or the Hamptons where I can find authentic South American ingredients. After visiting Peru and indulging in their amazing cuisine, I absolutely must replicate some Peruvian dishes at home. Does anyone know of a good market where I can find aji amarillo and the like?

  1. I've seen the aji peppers at Fairway.

Excellent! I'll check Fairway out. I hope they're fresh and not in a jar, but beggars can't be choosers. Muchos gracias mi amiga.

    2. Kalustyan's has fair selection of jarred aji in brines, pastes and pre-made sauces. A lot of legit chefs and home cooks use brined, jarred aji in recipes, so it's not a bad alternative if you can't find the peppers fresh.

I know I've seen aji at the UWS Fairway and the Hell's Kitchen Western Beef, in the past. (I've also purchased rocoto from Oak Grove Plantation at the Union Square Greenmarket and think they may carry aji, as well.) I do not know whether these places have them, now.
