What's your recommendation for Italian?

Lambowner Jun 20, 2011 07:29 PM

We are celebrating a milestone soon and I would like some really good Italian food to add some romance. What's the best in Houston? I'm imagining great osso bucco, house made pastas, delicious and fresh sauces, fresh seasonal vegetable dishes in an upscale full service setting with great wines and candlelight. I was thinking Damian's. I haven't been there in a couple of decades, but I hear they have remodeled. Thoughts?

I would be thinking Damien's also, though I haven't been in about a year. It was still good then. My other recommendation would be for Sorrento. If you go, ask for Serjio (sp?) as your server & be sure to try the Parmesan & truffle risotto.

I went to DaMarco's once and they had some truffled risotto I dearly wanted to try. But at $100, I couldn't do it. Plus, DaMarco's is more of an expense account dining room.

Yes, DaMarco is another one I hadn't thought about. Their food is excellent. If you get a chance, they have a weekday lunch special for $25. You get a starter, main, and dessert. Their truffle items aren't on that menu, but what is on there is EXCELLENT!

Sorrento is Damien's level - expensive, but not crazy expensive. Their risotto (an appetizer) is $12.

I looked at Sorrento's web site and it looks great! Gonna book a couple of seats. Will let you know how it goes!

We enjoyed our dinner at Sorrento! I made reservations online so we didn't have Sergio for our waiter, but the risotto was terrific! We also shared the lobster packed tortellini and I had the steak/lobster. Steak was perfectly medium rare and the side of house made gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce was delicious. My husband wanted the foie gras topped veal chop that is shown on their website, but it is no longer on the menu. The made it for him anyway. No piano player that night, but I'm sure that's a nice touch. Thanks for the recommendation! It was a lovely evening, and just what I was looking for.
