Hoboken on a Friday night with outdoor seating
Looking for a place in Hoboken with great food and if possible outdoor seating. My friends and I have only been to Amanda's and even though we really enjoyed the food, we would like to try something new. Nothing fancy but we want good beer and good food. I have heard about Cucharamama - any good? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Chowhounders!

Elysian cafe is a good choice.
On Willow is Zack's with a classic pub menu and good beer http://www.zackshoboken.com/menus/tap...
And Grimaldi's now has a Washington Street location near 4th St. They have a small but good draft beer selection.-----

THe woman that owns Cucharamama also owns Zafra, which also has outdoor seating and is very good. NOt sure aoutthe beer selection as I can't drink beer anymore. Both Cucharamama and Zafra are off of Washington so won't be as crowded as places on Washington.
If interested in Jersey City, the Hamilton Inn has great food and a good selection of beer and outdoor seating.
I too, like ttoomy, am not very impressed with the Hoboken food scene. Most places are all the same, more concerned with the bar business than the food. Amanda's Cafe Elysian, among others are the exception to that. La Isla has outdoor seating and is BYO so you could bring any beers you wanted.
As I am eating Karma Cafe as I write this I agree with that choice as well.
For a really great view, Trinity, which is on the Hudson is a great outdoor area, food is good, at least I think it is, but you can't beat the view of NYC.

Another spot in town that has a great view and outdoor seating in Hoboken is Turning Point. They only serve breakfast and lunch until 3 but it offers an amazing view of the city. You could always head there earlier in the day then take the rest of the day to walk around Hoboken. If you are going just call ahead. It gets packed on the weekends.
I'm a former Hoboken resident who lives in Cranford now and was worried about the quality of restaurants in the 'burbs after living in Hoboken. I do think that our town is probably one of the best in town in regards to quality of restaurants - we really lucked out.

If you like Amanda's, the same people have a French bistro called Elysian Cafe, which is very near Amanda's. The food is different and they have outdoor seating.
As for Cucharamama, the food is good, but the service is not so good.
So many places in Hoboken have outdoor seating, so you'll have no problem there. As a Hobokenite, I have to say I am somewhat disillusioned with the food scene in Hoboken these days. That said, one of my favorite restaurants is Karma Kafe for Indian food. They have outdoor seating, but I wouldn't say it's a place to go for "good beer" as you ask for. I think they have Kingfisher and a couple of others, but their cocktails (especially the mango mojito) and lassis are excellent.
