El Cholo?

I went to El Cholo's this week with my husband. Haven't been in a long time, but had a gift card, so we thought we would use it. Went to the original one on Western. Used to go in 70's for the drinks. We went for lunch, and was seated and it took forever for a waitress to come and there was no one there. I was disappointed by the menu, it was very small and expensive. My husband got three tacos for 15 dollars and it wasn't that great. I had a tasting plate with two rolled tacos, green corn tamale, and cheese enchilada. It was okay, but I was very disappointed in the green corn tamale. The meat in hubby's tacos was tough. I would rather go to a good taco truck, and it would be a lot cheaper. They had two salsas, one was so bland and no flavor, and the second was a habanero one, which wasn't that spicy. I added the two together and it was decent.
I know I will get flack for this, but I would rather go to El Coyote, have a few drinks, and have a much greater variety of food. If I just want a couple of tacos, I can have that.
I know a lot of people love El Cholo, but I was disappointed.

Well from my latest experience, we won't be back, even if it's free.

I go to the Orange County branch, and only for Blue Corn Tamales, when available.
