Little Fish, Philadelphia
Little Fish was a huge favorite of ours, the Sunday 5 course tasting was the best value in all of Philadelphia. You can throw in New Jersey also :)
It had been almost 3 years since we had been been back. The old restaurant was getting more popular and then suddenly Bon Appetit magazine called it one of the best seafood restaurants in the US. After that it was nearly impossible to get into the $28.00 5 course tasting.

Fast forward almost 3 years to a new location a few blocks away and I managed to get a reservation for tonights tasting menu. If anything, Little Fish is even better!. The 5 course menu is now $33.00 and is still a delicious value.
Here are the 5 courses, impossible to pick out a favorite/
1) Asparagus salad with arugula, egg yolk, saffron and almonds.
2) Rock shrimp with diced cantaloupe and basil (making this dish soon!
)3) Halibut topped with chopped shitake mushrooms and English peas
4) Skate with mussels, baby zucchini, leeks, in a lobster broth
5) Homemade crumb cake, topped with blueberries and whipped cream
Forgot that delicious crusty bread is served with a dish of heavily infused herb olive oil, Yum.
Service is impeccable, my water glass was refilled at least a half dozen times. Very informed and friendly servers.
I probably should not be writing this as I want to get back soon but food this good and at such a value should be known.
My hat is off to Jonathan, the Chef tonight who shares the kitchen with Chadd Jenkins.
Portion size is just right as the cumulative effect of the five courses is felt at the end of the meal.
Little Fish is BYO and we had a 2007 Williams Selyem chardonnay and a 2006 Freeman Pinot.
Worked out perfect as the table next to us forgot their wine and we shared both bottles.
Here are the details on the restaurant, the five course tasting menu is a silly good bargain.
I guarantee you it won't be two years till we return :)
A quick update on another great tasting menu experience this past Sunday. Everything was innovative and delicious. Look forward to getting back there again soon. Thinking August for our daughters birthday.

Seared Scallop, potato hash, truffle hollandaise
Clams, tomato, corn, bacon
Tile fish, cous cous, green beans, saffron
Flourless Chocolate Cake with mint Chocolate chip ice cream
Favorites were hard to choose but the scallop and tile fish were outstanding.

In the past month we have had two 5 course tasting menus at Little Fish, 10 completely different dishes and all were great. Very talented young chef.
Hmmm... Well, different strokes. I thought the two Sunday night dinners I tried this Winter were fairly average, with one preparation actually virtually repeated on one night, which kinda got my goat. The food was much better when I went on another night - but then sticker shock hit, since it's pretty much the most expensive BYO in the city, Sundays aside.
I ate there on the 12th and it was amazing for any price let alone $33! I don't remember most of the details, but the big picture included a spring greens salad to start; mussels with coconut, cilantro and ginger; seared salmon (almost raw -- delicious and meltingly tender) with eggplant,;skate; and yellow cake with strawberries and whipped cream. Yum!
