Looking for an almond bar cookie recipe

Susina Bakery in LA offers these chewy almond bars as part of its Italian cookie assortment:

They're delicious ~ very soft, slightly chewy, buttery with a shortbread base. I think they must be made with honey.

I've looked through my baking books and haven't seen anything resembling this. Does anyone have a cookie recipe that resembles these?

    1. here is a recipe for Dream Bars, c. 1963; these are a shortbread base baked in a 9x13 pan for 10 min @ 350.

      The shortbread is 1/2 c butter thoroughly mixed into 1/2 c packed b sugar; stir in1 c ap. flour, press into ungreased 9x13 pan. Parbake 10 min @350, then spread topping over and return to oven for 25 min or till golden. Cool on rack then cut in pan into 3"'x1" bar. dip in melted dark choc. and let dry on rack over wax paper.

      Topping: 2 eggs well-beaten, 1 c packed b. sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 T flour, 1 tsp. b. powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 2 c. sliced almonds. Mix wet, and incorporate into mixed dry ingred's. Stir in almonds.

      Adding maybe 1/4 tsp almond extract to the topping sounds good to me. OR you could enhance the almond flavor and texture by adding some almond paste to the beaten eggs and sugar before mixing in the other ingredients.

      I used to get these from the Monterey Bakery (downtown, long-gone) back in the 70's.
