Papa's Tomato Pies, Trenton NJ

Have been wanting to try Papa's for quite some time and finally got to experience the place yesterday. Experience is a good way to describe Papa's, like many of the old Burg restaurants (Rossi's Delorenzo's etc) the atmosphere and people simply can't be duplicated.

Went late afternoon and were greeted by the servers who knew we were not regulars but treated us like one of the gang. With Sinatra music playing in the background we ordered an antipasti which was a bowl of sliced meats, greens, beets, other veggies and at $4.00 is an incredible bargain.
Next was the sausage tomato pie which came out done just right, slight char, crust was crispy but also slightly chewy. The flavor was an excellent combination of ingredients, sauce, cheese, crumbled sausage spices all in good balance.
Seems like everyone was ordering birch beer, which I admit is great with pizza except when you have a good zinfandel, which we did :)

The inevitable comparison with Delorenzo's will likely be asked, I can tell you that both pies are worthy of a visit. Papa's does offer excellent value. Our bill for the antipasti and sausage pie was $20.00. If your in the mood for friendly service, old time atmosphere and great tomato pies, give Papa's a try. Here is some information.

=Mark, no need to twist my arm. I have the places to try all lined up and ready to go. Good to have a big group, 6 or more as pizza is pretty filling compared to most foods, especially if we wind up at 4 places :)
PS: If anyone is interested, One of the best dining experiences - deals will be posted on the Philadelphia Board. Went there today.

Tapas, it was you and some others that led us to trying Papa's. It was truly a throw back to another less hectic era. Plus the pizza, whoops sausage tomato pie was great :)
