The Tree and Vine - Biltmore Village/Asheville

  • 1

Stopped in at a new shop yesterday while roaming around. Apparently, this place just opened a couple of days ago and is still in their "soft opening" stage (no official sign out front yet, but there is something on their door).

It is an olive oil and balsamic tasting place, similar to Olive And Kickin. It's in between Rezaz's and Village Wayside at 22 Lodge St. (828-505-4049)

The owners were very friendly and talked us through the tasting (I hadn't done one before). They have probably 10 or more each of various infused olive oils and balsamic vinegars (red and white). Some of my favorites were the fruit vinegars. Blueberry, strawberry, mango...all really good. You can either try them straight in a little cup or on bits of bread.

Prices, as I recall, were about $17 for a bottle of either. This one is a little different from Olive And Kickin in that the tasting area is set up more like a wine tasting. One big counter with the owner behind it answering questions. She also said that she sources from different people/places depending on what she likes best from where, whereas OK uses one source for all of their items (don't know if that's good or bad, but makes them different).

They also sell a few other Mediterranean items such as jarred olives, pastas, sauces, etc. She plans to get wines by the bottle and tastings for those, but that is not in there yet.

Not sure how well it will do, but we enjoyed our visit. We didn't stay too long because our husbands were waiting outside. When we told the owner that, she said, "oh! Well, they could've sat at our 'bored husbands' table right over here!" (she gestured to a nice bistro table off to the side). I thought that was funny. Of course, for some households it would be the "bored wives" table depending on who's into the cooking! :)
