I think I just got ripped off!

Quattrociocchi Jun 17, 2011 05:36 PM

I went down to T&T this afternoon to pick up some crab - the were on special for $4.99/lb. My daughter and I picked out three healthy crab....all with legs. The lady asked if I wanted them cleaned and I said yes.....

I just got home and realized that I think I got the "switch" behind the counter. One crab is missing two legs, and another crab is missing one leg. And I'm SURE they were smaller than the ones I picked out. One crab is fully intact and the correct size. I'm just fuming....

What would you do in a situation such as this? Sure, I could call the manager but I have no way of proving anything....

stupid? really?? the lady handed the bag back to me completely sealed and double-bagged so there was no way of checking. Maybe you would have ripped it open in the middle of the store to check?

I think caseygirl meant the clerk may have had a stupid moment and forgot to package your crab completely after cleaning it.

If that's the case, then apologies to caseygirl. This was no stupid moment - it was obviously an intentional switch. I personally picked each crab out of a tank and placed them in a plastic container. Pretty sure I would have noticed missing legs at that point.

yes, that is what I meant... that I worked in the industry and sometimes you have stupid days... we all do.... innocent enough... too bad things didn't work out...

Possible your bag got accidentally switched for that of another customer? They are often pretty busy back there. Whenever i buy live spot prawns at T&T I open the bag and rummage through them to make sure i don't have any dead ones. If i get a few dead ones i ask them to switch them for live ones.

Wait a minute. You really need to cool off before you do anything!

This is not the first time I have heard of this happening at that store. Best way is to take the crabs home alive and clean them yourself. Very easy.

I really don't think my bag got switched up - it wasn't that busy.....we chose the crab ourselves, out of the tank...we took our time to choose the biggest, liveliest ones...but then she took the crab behind the counter to clean it.....that's when the switcheroo happened. IF I go back, I'll definitely clean them myself, or, I'll ask to see the cleaned product before it goes into the bag. Never had to do that before....lesson learned.

            And thanks lominator....I feel validated!
