Steamers Seafood in Newton?

I can't find any discussions about Steamers Seafood in Nonantum section of Newton. Has anyone been? I live nearby but didn't know about its existence until today when I saw their seafood stand at the Nonantum Farmers Market. The guy (I guess Domenic?) told me they get their fish fresh daily from the docks. He handed me a menu; the place is both a restaurant and a seafood market. I'm interested in any comments about this place!

i've tried it and it's ok for fresh fish but not in the class of New Deal Seafood. I haven't tried their prepared stuff. But, as the writer below notes, it has the definite advantage of being near DiPasquale which is excellent should you need some homemade italian sausage, etc. What we bought was certainly better than super market quality but the selection was limited and it just didn't have the zingy perfection of new deal. on the other hand, new deal is right across the street from mayflower (best chickens, eggs, rabbits, etc.). Both are near good italian bakeries (good for cream cakes, Antoine's near Steamers and royale near new deal).

We we lived in Brighton, 4 years ago, we used them all the time. I like this family run place and found the fish to be very good and always fresh. In the same area, diPasquales for sausage and all things Italian and Guiseppes for a time machine back to the 60s for a meatball sub for $2. (price may be $3 now).

Actually, the meatball subs at Giuseppes are more like $5-6 these days.

I bought seafood (to cook) from them once. We typically go to Captain Marden's in Wellesley but Steamers is a lot closer so we were hoping to start buying from them instead. Unfortunately we are spoiled by CM and find that Steamers' selection just isn't as good, nor does it look quite as nice as the seafood at CM. That said, the seafood we bought was good (lobsters and a fish fillet, but I can't remember what kind) and the people were very nice.

I'd be curious to hear if anyone's had their prepared food.
