Peninsula Seafood Opens in Chinatown

With well over a hundred restaurant sites in Chinatown, it's surprising that new restaurant openings are as infrequent as they are. Indeed prior to the opening of Peninsula Seafood on Jackson, apparently in the past week, I think it's been a couple of years since we've had a sit down Chinese restaurant open in Chinatown. Peninsula is at 641 Jackson, former location of Pearl City restaurant since the late 1980s, and we should probably give a tip of the hat to that restaurant for over two decades of service. Now I was hoping for Peninsula to perhaps be a new breed of Chinatown restaurant, but I'm not sure if it's much different from Pearl City as serving basic Cantonese food and dim sum. There isn't much in the way of exciting items on the menu, though they do have the whole chicken stuffed with sticky rice. As to be expected, it's pretty much of a madhouse right now and most of the clientele is Chinese, which could be a good sign. (It could also just be the Chinese looky-loo syndrome.)

  1. Missed your post, but noticed the place today as I walked by. It's notable for serving dim sum starting 8 am daily.
