I had the mussels, I thought they were v. good. The broth was so good, I requested more bread. They serve their bread grilled - and charged me $3 for 4 pieces. I was a little surprised, but it was v. good. My dc had the steak, he didn't think it was v. good.

      +1 about the drinks!

I'm not loving the food at Umami yet, but the bartending is original and very good, thanks to bar manager Noon Inthasuwan, who long managed the bar at Khao Sarn Cuisine in Coolidge Corner.

I like Umami. Wonderful room and patio, nice people, inventive cocktails, some very good food, some just ok. They are trying very hard with the fusion thing - "1,000 Year Old Egg "Alfredo" Sauce, Udon Noodles, Crimini Mushrooms, Swimming Blue Crab Meat". Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I love the Sauteed Shitake Mushrooms, Yuzu Marmalade, Grand Marnier, Sunny Up Quail Egg appetizer. Could eat it 3 times a day.
