Casual, Good Bar Menu after soccer match at RFK

Matt H Jun 16, 2011 02:01 PM

I will be in town for the USA vs Jamaica match at RFK this weekend. The match should wrap up around 5-5:30 and wanted to grab a bite after the match for an early dinner.

Is there anywhere that fits the following criteria, either walking distance or close Metro proximity to RFK stadium?

- Excellent Bar Menu or Dining Room Menu you can order at the Bar.

- Solid Beer List or Cocktail program

- Casual so I wont be out of place in my Jamaica Jersey, Flip Flops and Shorts.

Any type of cuisine is fine, but "New American" or something along those lines would be preferable but any ethnic options would not be ignored either.

The only thing available around RFK will be food venders selling the usual game fair. The closest area with restaurant and bars will be H St NE take a cab or hop on the Metro to Penn/Quarter or Gallery Place Chinatown you won't be out of place with a Jamaica Jersey or flip flops

For the best beer list in town, catch the blue or orange line from the stadium to McPherson Square. Walk about 10 mins. up 14th St. to ChurchKey. The food there is OK, not really special, but there are a lot of excellent restaurants within a few blocks.

For an excellent, if pricey Belgian beer list, check out Brasserie Beck (a few blocks north of Metro Center). They have great mussels and frites.

PS7, a few blocks north of Gallery Place Metro, has wonderful cocktails and excellent food - don't miss their tuna sliders!

      Brasserie Beck
      1101 K Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005

Thanks for the recommendations so far. I do not mind taking the Metro if the immediate area doesn't offer strong choices. I also wanted to mention the match is on a Sunday. PS7's looked perfect, but closed on a Sunday (Same with Central which I enjoyed last visit to DC)

How about The Gibson (U St. Metro)? Great cocktails - and lots of good dinner choices within a few blocks.

The Gibson looks right up my alley for cocktails. I will probably try to fit in a stop there Monday or Tuesday evening. Thanks.

Another place along the lines of The Gibson - The Passenger, and its inner sanctum, The Columbia Room. I still haven't been, but it's gotten a lot of great buzz on this board - do a search for recs and info. I remember reading that The Passenger has great bar food too. Also, a prolific NYC hound visited DC and as I recall had great things to say about TCR.

Much closer than any of the previous recs is the Eastern Market station. Only a few stops away on either the orange or blue lines. Within a block or two of the stop on Eighth St is Matchbox. Check this board for many favorable comments.

Matchbox looks exactly like the type of place I was looking for. Also any thoughts on Todd Gray's Watershed? I am kind of debating between there and Matchbox for Sunday.
