ISO dive bar nr. Met Museum

It doesn't seem like there would be a dive bar near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, but if there is, I would love to know! Barring that, can anyone recommend an inexpensive, unpretentious, relaxed bar to have a quiet cocktail with a couple 20-something artsy Europeans after going to the Met? Or is sneaking a bottle of champagne in Central Park afterwards the best bet?

      P&G is no more, tragically.

They relocated to 78th and Columbus. Not quite the same atmosphere as before, though.

Yes, I know. And according to the Eater link in my previous post, the new location closed at the end of May.

Too bad it isnt 1999. I miss the Madison Pub, a tiny unpretentious place to grab a drink.

There are plenty of largely similar bars on Second Avenue in the 80s, but Earl's Beer and Cheese is a better choice. It's a very relaxed neighborhood type of place with lots of personality, though not necessarily a dive bar.

You'll have to buy the champagne after your visit because the Met has a no liquids (except water) policy and they check bags.
