Malai in West Village?

Anyone been to Malai? Curious about what people have to say, and if there is a dish they they would recommend above others (or dishes to avoid). Realize it probably won't be authentic thai, but I am a-okay with that...just looking for good tasting and a fun cocktail with my friend on her night out without her new baby.

We ate there late one night about two weeks ago. I'd judge the food as better than average to good, but not great. The spring rolls were very nice, fresh and crunchy, with shrimp. Tom Kha Gai was only fair. You'll get much better at Nandina and at Mango Thai. Drunken Noodles (Pad Kee Mow) were good, but not great.

If you want drinks and a drink atmosphere with Thai food, this is a good addition to the rotation. If you're looking for the best Thai food, this probably isn't the place, although you can get a perfectly acceptable meal here.

Both food and cocktails were surprisingly, better than expected. I'm happy it's in my neighborhood.

I know I want to get the mango sticky rice dessert (been thinking about it since the writeup on sidedish). Any other main courses I should get and/or stay away from?

The cocktails and drinks were good as of last night. Food was okay but I only had two dishes the Laotian Beef Tartare (laab) and the spicy chicken wings. Out of the two I would go with the Laotian beef tartare again. The chicken wings we the typical fried wing in a syrupy sweet sauce with red jalapeno slices. The cocktail list was pretty tasty and pretty stiff.

Not my pick but decent if you had nowhere else to go.
