Does the lamb shoulder at Zahav need to be preordered?

  • 7

My wife sent a group of out-of-town co-workers to Zahav last night and when they tried to order the lamb shoulder they were told that they needed to preorder it. Is this true?

  1. Did they try to order the Mesibah tasting menu or just the lamb shoulder?

They wanted to order the Mesibah tasting menu and the server told them they typically serve the lamb shoulder later in the week and it has to be preordered. They ended up ordering the Tayim tasting menu, but they did see a table with the lamb shoulder and were told it was preordered.

When I had it it was the sole reason we ordered the Mesibah (which is always on the menu).

      2. The first time I did the Mesibah we did not preorder. But I made reservations last Friday, planning on getting the Mesibah, and when I called a few hours before the reservation to ask a question, I mentioned that we planned on getting it and they said they were out of it. So maybe preordering is wise these days.

i was there saturday and was also told that the lamb was unavailable- but we saw another table order it. so maybe they preordered? i didnt ask

        2. First time l ordered it, it was not preordered. When we got up to leave, it mysteriously was available. If there is a dish on a restaurant's menu that must be, or should be, preordered, it would be nice if thast was mentioned on the menu or the online menu. It is not. I wonder if they always have enough on hand on weekends.. but earlier in the week they dont have keep many portions stocked. I assume the volume at the restaurant has gone up since the Chef won the James Beard award.
