Sunday in Madrid

I'm going to be in Madrid soon for just one day before moving on elsewhere in Spain. Unfortunately (from what I gather), that day is a Sunday. What restaurants will be open? Perhaps there is a place that even does a special Sunday meal?

I have been to the city before and have seen most of the main sights; I'm really just interested in eating and drinking all day if that is indeed possible.

Thanks.

I will definitely check out La Latina; it's near my hotel and I'm hoping I will have the energy for it when I get there.

Fabada was one of my favorite dishes from my last visit and I would be happy to eat some again. I'm curious - does the dish have an association with Sunday? And is it just a coincidence that two out of three recs here are Asturian places?

Not sure if there is a connection but I found the place when looking for a place open Sunday night. I also have a more upscale (not much) but homey Asturiano restaurant/wine bar that is also open on Sun night if you want...

There's also a good restaurant called La Copita Asturiana, that's near La Burbuja. I live in La Latina and there are plenty of restaurants open. Maybe not so many stores, but to eat and drink? That's what's Sunday's for!

Head to Plaza de la Paja, which is absolutely covered in little restaurants with outside terrace seating. Terrific restaurants, and an adorable little garden at one end.

Good question, Tenedor! Why are so many Asturian spots open on Sundays??

There are several threads on this subject, including this one:

Also open Sundays is the Asturian Couzapin/Carlos Tartiere.

La Burbuja Que Rie @ c/angel 16. A non fancy, youngish sort of place that makes a mean Fabada. Cider too, though they dont do the aerial pour schtick. I love their Fabada,,,,

Sunday´s the day for Madrid´s big Rastro market, which means the La Latina area will be in full-swing. If you´re into the tapas scene, come early-ish (1pm or so) to grab a seat at one of the bar´s oudoor terrazas and enjoy a caña while you soak up some sun.

If you´d like a calmer day, you could head out to the lake (Metro: Lago). There are 2-3 restaurants next to the lake there that serve some tasty cook-your-own beef dishes. They´ve got outdoor seating next to the water, which makes it a really nice place to escape the city a bit.

Or if you´re looking for brunch, I think Ninas in the Malasaña area is your best bet (http://11870.com/pro/restaurante-nina). They´ve got an American-style brunch menu with things like Eggs Benedict, Smoked Salmon, etc. Their brunch is pretty popular with the locals, so be sure to call the day before to reserve a spot.
