Anyone know anything about Topaz in Istanbul?

I am looking for a great restaurant to to celebrate a special birthday. The concierge at my hotel has recommended Mikla (surprised be such bad reviews on here!) and Topaz. I can't seem to find much info on Topaz - can anyone offer their opinion? Or suggest another restaurant with good traditional Turkish food, great views, and a special feel!1

Thank you!

  1. I have had really good meals at Mikla but I wouldn't describe it as "traditional Turkish food". I don't think Mikla is anything to get too excited about unless you are craving a fine dining experience. Topaz, I have heard bad reports on very recently.
If I were you, I'd skip this type of restaurant- international, only vaguely Turkish- and go to a traditional fish restaurant on the Bosphorus. There are some very elegant places right on the water- Iskele at Rumeli Hisari, Kahraman (I haven't been yet but hear good things about it), Set Balik, etc-and the standards are often very high. You could even hire a boat for an hour or two and cruise to dinner.
