Looking to Re-create our Recette experience before leaving NY

Me and my partner (from Seattle) ate at Recette on Wednesday and loved everything about our experience and are looking to re-create it somewhere else. We enjoyed the seven course prix fixe and each one was perfect, the space was small but intimate, great service as well. Loved it!

We ate at The Modern Bar last night and had a poor experience...steak tartare was "off," over-processed and gummy- a lot like spam, unfortunately and the salmon tartare was bland with a poorly cooked fried quail egg. It didn't live up to its reputation.

Any suggestion on the Lower East Side, Greenwich, West End would be appreciated.

On a side note, has anyone eaten at Colonie in Brooklyn?

Thanks

Colonie is fantastic!!! I've been there for brunch and dinner & both were great, but dinner was outstanding. I highly recommend it.

Ocdgirl, you are correct. We ate Colonie last night and were glad we fit it in before we left. Great atmosphere and spectacular preparations.
Extremely juicy and flavorful pork chop w/ creamy grits
      Foie gras crostini
      Spring pea ravioli
      Oyster mushrooms

We look forward to going back..

If I had to rank our dining experiences, they would be:
      Recette
      Colonie
      Txikito
      Bedouin Tent
      Bar Modern
      Dim sum o-go

I'm actually thinking about Recette for my boyfriend's b'day dinner. It's between that & Locande Verde.

I had a less than stellar but very expensive meal at Recette recently.

You probably already know this, but there's a new chef at Colonie.

I had a fabulous meal at Recette last month. I also enjoyed L'Artusi which is also small plates and FishTag.
I wpould also reccomend the tasting menu at Degustation

          Hey there,
I should say that I'm not a huge fan of Recette but glad you had a great meal! You might try Gramercy Tavern at the bar. I think their ingredients are flawless. If you want to do a small plates type of thing but more casual, you might like Txikito on 9th Avenue. It's a Basque tapas bar with some amazing food. If you want to go for a step up, you can try to get into Eleven Madison Park, one of the best restaurants in the city but you'd have to hope for a last minute cancellation. I'm not sure how they handle walk-ins and I've never tried. Enjoy and please report back!

            Thanks, Jeremy.
We dined at Txikito upon your recommendation and enjoyed it very much. It's more casual than Recette and not as refined but the flavors were spot-on. We had the suckling pig- very moist, sweet peppers with basque tuna, Foie gras terrine. I highly recommend it.
