with these past few hot hot days, i find i am not interested in big heavy dinners. any recommendations for light dinners- even salads, or really good sandwiches --? or do i just settle for a big dish of ice cream?

I really enjoy the ocean cafe. They have locations in Shrewsbury and the west end of Long Branch. I never have had dinner there, but I often will pick up a few things at lunch (they have delicious summer rolls, soups, salads, sandwiches, etc.) and will serve them for dinner. I also like Jr's in West End. While they serve plenty of greasy fare (which can sometimes be quite enjoyable!) they also make delicious grilled chicken sandwiches on whole wheat rolls and good salads as well. Other times, if I don't feel like cooking, I'll stop at Sickles in Little Silver and pick up some sandwiches and veggie slaw there. I do, however, own an ice cream store and completely advocate ice cream for dinner;-) Hope that helps!

Gem's House of Bagels opened a new location in Hazlet (Toys R Us shopping plaza). They have fabulous sandwiches. Here's a preview of their menu items: http://www.jerseymenus.com/menus.php?...
